DAO Treasury Ops
The Treasury Ops Model
Designing a secure, scalable operating model for DAO treasuries.
The Treasury Ops Model
A mature DAO treasury operates like a sophisticated corporation, but with cryptographic transparency.
Roles & Responsibilities
| Role | Responsibility | Matador Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Token Holders | Ultimate authority. Approves high-level budgets. | Root Admin: Can update/revoke any policy. |
| Grant Committee | Evaluates proposals and disburses funds. | Budget Policy: Can spend up to $X/month. |
| Ops Team | Pays vendors, manages infra. | Payroll Policy: Can pay whitelisted addresses. |
| Guardian | Protects the protocol. | Pause Policy: Can pause contracts, cannot move funds. |
The Flow of Funds
- Allocation: Token Holders vote to allocate 1M USDC to the Grants Program.
- Authorization: Token Holders install a Matador Policy on the Treasury wallet, authorizing the Grants Committee multisig to spend that 1M USDC.
- Execution: The Grants Committee sends transactions. Matador enforces the limits.
- Reporting: Because every policy execution emits an event, the DAO gets real-time, automated financial statements.
Moving Fast with Safety
By separating Strategic Approval (Governance) from Tactical Execution (Committees), DAOs can operate at the speed of a startup while maintaining the trustlessness of a blockchain.
